Manchester Squires Softball Drop Hard-Fought Contest at Wawasee The Squires opened Friday night’s game with an early surge and strong offensive production but ultimately fell to Wawasee, 11–7. Manchester finished the night with 14 hits, out-hitting Wawasee 14–13, and continued to apply pressure throughout the game. Manchester struck first in the top of the first inning with back-to-back singles. Egolf got the Squires on the board with an RBI single, and Espeset followed with a hard-hit single to drive in two more runs, giving Manchester an early 3–0 lead. The Squires added another run in the second inning when West delivered a productive fly out to extend the lead to 4–2. Espeset led Manchester offensively, going 3-for-4 with singles in the first, third, and sixth innings. Manchester showed depth throughout the lineup, collecting hits up and down the order. Jarrett, Renz, and West each recorded multiple hits, contributing to the team’s strong offensive output. After Wawasee used timely extra-base hits and power in the middle innings to build momentum, Manchester responded with resilience in the sixth inning. Betten delivered an RBI single, and Metzger followed with a two-run single to center field, trimming the deficit to 9–7 and keeping the Squires within reach late. Defensively, Manchester turned a key double play, and Sautter added pressure on the bases with two stolen bases, helping generate scoring opportunities throughout the game. Despite the final score, the Squires’ ability to jump out early, rally late, and out-hit their opponent highlighted the team’s competitiveness and offensive potential as they continue through the season.
